PURPOSE

 

The purpose of this document is to provide and explain the operational procedures agreed upon by  Tennessee's broadcast, cable and government officials in the  Federal, State and Local Operational areas of the Emergency  Alert System (EAS) plan for the State of Tennessee.  The use of this plan will ensure that warnings, emergency information and instructions will be available to the citizens of Tennessee during times of potential or actual emergencies.

This document is prepared under authority of  Title 47 U.S.C. 151, 154 (i) and (o), 303 (r), 524 (g), and 606; and 47 C.F.R. Part 11 FCC Rules and Regulations, Emergency Alert System (EAS)

 

INTRODUCTION

 

This plan has been developed after months of work in designing a system that addresses the requirements and concerns of all participants involved.  This plan was developed by  ECAMS, Inc. in conjunction with the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA), the Tennessee Association of Broadcasters (TAB), the National Weather Service (NWS), regional and local chapters of the Society of Broadcast Engineers (SBE), and local membes of the industrial, military, law enforcement and other emergency and governmental agencies in an effort to streamline the development of the EAS for Tennessee.
